I made the decision to stop smoking today and start running this Monday.

  • Today is my Cross Training day.  I am going to start up the 100 push-up challenge again as I did in a previous post and failed miserably.

    Hundred Push-Ups

Today I ran 1.5 miles and had to “run” to get my inhaler.  I finished off 2 miles and had to walk.  I haven’t been taking my Advair lately since I ran out.  I guess I still need it.  Also, it turns out that the rescue inhaler I was taking wasn’t a rescue inhaler but was Flovent.  Breathing is necessary and if you cannot bring in enough or process it properly your run is gonna suffer!

Anyway I took a lousy run and turned it into a good walk.  After the 2 mile run I set the TM to a hill program at level 11.  This took my incline to 8.0!  A good leg workout.

I had to take yesterday off for a dentist appointment.  I hate when that happens.  Anyway today was a light day, I just did thirty minutes on the elliptical.  I kept my heartrate below 150.  Maybe doing this will help burn some of this fat I am carrying around.  Then again it is probably my lousy eating habits at night.

I had a good chat with one of the trainers at the gym today and we realize that while I am eating through the day I am not eating “meals” every three hours.  So starting tomorrow I will be eating at 7am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm and 9pm.  at each meal I will try to eat 300 – 400 calories for a total of 2000 calories for the day.  The charts and equations say I should be at 1800 calories per day to lose 2 pounds per week.  When subtracting the calorie burn from my workouts I should be right in the zone, with a little to spare.

I didn’t want to start my run today.  I was miserable because of things at work not going well, I didn’t eat much today (two slices of buttered toast and a coffee), I wanted no part of running.  I stepped on the TM anyway!  Kicked it up to 5.0 and moved my feet, one in front of the other, then I repeated, many times.  The minutes slowly ticked by and the .01 miles even slower.  I was making every excuse to stop and maybe do something else, but the TM kept moving and I couldn’t stop it, no matter how much I tried.

At about .5 mile into the run I finally loosened up and felt better.  My mind began to wonder to random subject as I normally do during my run.  I hate that feeling where everything is holding you back but it feels great to push all that aside and finish your goal for the day!

I bet you are wondering why I have this photo posted.  Just a strange thing I want to do, I googled “I don’t want to start” and one of the photos was this one by *Zakahia.

Running on the Rocks

rocks1I really need to keep this updated better.  Today I again decided to go to what I know best and reset my scattered brain to the things I love most.  So for now (as I said many times) My schedule will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, run.  30 – 36 minutes whatever gets me to 3 miles or more.  Tuesday and Thursday I will bike, elliptical, lift anything other than running.

Another thing I will be doing to keep a “record” of my pace is to set the TM at a specific speed.  Each week up the speed .1 / MPH.  Today I started with 5.0.  Once I made it to 2.75 miles I upped the speed to 6.0 (10:00 / mile) until I finished a full 3 miles.  Today It was 35:41 for three miles.  So Friday I will do the same.  Next week I will start the run at 5.1 MPH.  Because I do not have more than my lunch hour to run this is what I must do for now.

Spring is approaching and I hope to be able to start hiking, Mt biking, etc.

I am still running!

I’ve been running again for about a month or so.  I’m up to 3 miles in about 35 minutes not bad could be better!  I am also doing some cross training with the elliptical and bike.  I have to start the 100 Push up challenge again too.
