Last Wednesday I went running at last! It wasn’t terrible but not at easy as when I left off. I was able to get in 2.0 miles in 30 minutes. One full mile less than what I was doing before. That’s okay it will get better! It felt good to get back there and I feel better!
Since I missed posting last week I did get out again on Friday. I did 2.33 miles in 30 minutes. Getting better already. I was hurting! This time it wasn’t as easy.
Today I plan to get back and start the week off right!. Get in a full 30 minute run today (who cares how many miles). Tomorrow I want to start weight training. So my plan is to have M W F for running whatever I feel like. Tuesday for lower body weights and Thursday for upper body weights. I will have the weekend to rest.

“Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I!
Is it not monstrous…”
Since sometime in December (I don’t even want to know) I have not run, worked out or even cared about what I ate. I cared about what I ate but ate it anyway. Last week I had enough – again. But this time things are calming down and I will have more time to run. So I renewed my gym membership and made plans to begin again this week. Slow start already because I have plans for lunch when I usually workout but tomorrow is the day!
“And all for nothing!
For Hecuba!
What is Hecuba to him or he to Hecuba,
That he should weep for her?”
In addition I am going to make some time to ski again. I have my old skis – I understand they are outdated and well, fluorescent pink and yellow but they are skis! And I am too old to care what I look like. I have one friend who will ski with me and maybe another who will snowboard. Could be my first time back this Thursday.
Yet another thing is I will (if all goes well) join a local group forming called Roaming Buffaloes. Some activities they have planned are hiking, camping, wine stuff, scuba certification, and much more. I hope to join, have some fun, bring the kids, and contribute with some extra activities. I do not know any specifics outside of their facebook group. I hope that will work for me.
I guess that is all for now.

Nothing special today, I did the same thing as I did yesterday. The biggest difference was only the last five minutes of the run was challenging. That makes it sound like the rest of the run was too easy but it wasn’t. It wasn’t hard either, it was just a run.
Another thing today I started tracking what I eat again. Livestrong.com / The Daily Plate -Listed on my “Fitness Links Page”- has a great calorie, fat, sodium (it has everything) tracker. Plus much more for anyone fit, trying to get fit or is interested in fitness. I found that most days I will not eat enough through the day then at night dive into the fridge or pantry. These days with Christmas Cookies around and plenty of buttered up leftovers it is best to hit your calorie goal during the active part of the day. This way you can sleep through the night and if you are sleeping you are not eating. That is not entirely true. I used to eat in my sleep. I would either wake up to a mess of wrappers on the counter or wake up in a middle of eating leftovers. I don’t do that much anymore. I just need to get rid of all chocolate in the house now.

Enough is enough already! Mix in a new baby, Thanksgiving, Christmas cookies and visitors and what happens? Yeah, no running and gaining weight!
Like I said, I had enough and went to the gym today to run. I got in 2.75 in 30 minutes; not bad for being gone for a few weeks. I did the “hill” program on the treadmill at level 3. I have no idea what level 3 equates to but the hills went up to a 3.0 (whatever that is) and I ran at a 11:55 pace. Most of the run was easy until the last 10 minutes but still manageable. Plus, at that point I got really hungry! Good thing for canned soup at the office – and coffee!
I think this proves that once you start running you never really quit. It might have only been a couple of weeks for me but I am still “in the game”. I am not running two hours or 30+ miles but then again I never did, yet. I am right back where I left off, more or less and still reaching for my goals.

Over the past few weeks getting out to run has been a difficult task at best. Between hospitals, extra workload at work, winter prep and general lack of time I have managed to make it to the gym once per week for who knows how long now. The worst part is that I can feel my old habits creeping back; soda here and there (and not just diet), pastries, and for lunch today, Chinese! I cannot see things getting any better but I will make an effort to put aside the one hour lunch time and run, walk, or anything I was doing before.
Another issue stopping me from running is a strange pain. It is in my lower stomach area right where my belt crosses and moves down to my right leg. It could be a pulled muscle or gas but it still hurts. So much so that I will limp around all day and night. When I did get the opportunity to run it would eventually loosen up.
I also need to make a decision on whether or not to keep the gym membership, get a treadmill of my own or start running in the cold Buffalo snow (which is already flying!). Having my own treadmill means no more lunch runs but also means I can run at home after everyone goes to bed.
